The simple text ambles along unimaginatively, though it does feature a moment of uncharacteristic anatomical frankness when Papa Bear "took a quick look at the kitten's bottom. 'She's a she,' he said." The illustrations are typical Berenstain--clean lines, dull, conservative palette.
