Kathryn and Larson Jennings's ten-year childless marriage suffers from years of unfulfilled needs and expectations. Kathryn left a comfortable life in mid-19th century Boston to follow Larson's ranching dreams in Colorado, which seem to be slipping away as they face foreclosure. While Kathryn loves Larson, his abusive childhood left scars that prevent him from fully committing his heart to her. When he fails to return home from a dangerous winter trip, Kathryn must learn to live without the husband she now believes is dead. Meanwhile, the injured and badly burned Larson convinces himself that he is as good as dead to her now. The two spouses undergo believable spiritual transformations as they pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. Making an impressive debut, Alexander has written a charming historical romance that features well-drawn characters and smooth, compelling storytelling that will have readers anxiously awaiting the second installment of the -Fountain Creek Chronicles. - Highly recommended for romance and inspirational collections. Alexander lives in Colorado.
