Grades K-3 A book about frustration may not be at the top of a kid's TBR pile, but this offering in the My Emotions through Emojis series (6 titles) cleverly uses these icons to add appeal and help children identify a variety of feelings. Appropriate and occasionally humorous stock photos, sometimes overlaid with more emojis, provide additional visuals of children dealing with their frustration. Three scenarios demonstrate familiar vexations--not getting a desired product at the grocery store, conflict with a sibling, and using art to express emotions--and the text is dotted with emojis to illustrate the characters' changing feelings. First, though, the author defines frustration as ""feeling angry or upset"" and discusses ways frustration might feel in the body. Coping tips are included, as well. An accessible take on handling difficult emotions.COPYRIGHT(2023) Booklist, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

K-Gr 2-Emojis are a familiar staple of chat conversations between people of all ages. These fun, vibrant pixels are the vehicle for exploring emotional intelligence and regulation here. Readers are given short stories in simple sentences with emojis peppered along the pages to help guide them to finding out more about how others feel and how to identify which emotions they themselves are experiencing. Each title explores the explanation of each emotion in a way that does not apply morality to them, while also teaching healthy ways to express how one feels to others and oneself. VERDICT Librarians looking to add materials related to emotional intelligence and trauma-informed care can rely on these playful choices and their chosen familiar medium of emojis.
